The South Baltimore Neighborhood Association (SBNA) is currently working with the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) to consider directional changes for Randall St. which currently runs one way westbound from Light St. to Race St.

SBNA was approached by a resident, who was involved in a bad accident turning from Randall St. on to S. Hanover St., to see if any changes could be made. SBNA reached out to DOT which came back with three proposals for Randall St.

The options being considered include:

Option 1: reversing the unit block of W. Randall St. from S. Hanover St. to S. Charles from westbound to eastbound

Option 2: reversing the direction of Randall St. from Hanover St. to Light St. to eastbound

Option 3: making no changes

SBNA discussed the options at the last general membership meeting and will discuss it again at tomorrow’s meeting at Delia Foley’s.

SBNA President Sam Cogen said an email poll was sent out with more than 80 responses coming in. Every house on Randall St. was also given a flyer about the potential changes. Cogen said the poll results will be read at the meeting, but that the responses were pretty evenly split.

Cogen said SBNA is leaning towards Option 1 as it’s the least impactful change that eliminates turns from the unit block of W. Randall St. onto S. Hanover St. He noted changing the direction from S. Charles St. to Light St., which would be completed with Option 2, could be added in the future.

A final recommendation from SBNA will be given to DOT.
