New Pit Beef Place in SoWeBo
Taylor Made Charcoal Grill has opened at 6 South Poppleton St. in the former home of Taylor Made Café in SoWeBo, adjacent to the University of Maryland BioPark. The restaurant serves sandwiches, platters, and sides and their meats include beef, turkey, sausage, ham, and corned beef, as well as burgers, ribs, whole and 1/2 chickens, and fish. A sign for pit beef is painted on the side of the building and featured on their sandwich board.
Astrology Shop Opens in Pigtown
Anna’s Astrology Shop has opened at 782 Washington Blvd. on Pigtown Main Street in the former home of The Art of Candy. The shop’s sign reads “Past, Present, Future.”
Construction Underway at Blue Moon Café
Excitement was high when popular Fells Point diner Blue Moon Café announced a second restaurant in Federal Hill in March, but few signs of construction had been seen at their new location at 1024 Light St. in the former home of Ope’s Laundromat since the announcement.
Full construction crews have been there in recent weeks and owner Sarah Simington let SouthBMore.com know on Twitter that they are looking at a winter opening, maybe on New Year’s Day.
The Sushi Place Closes
The Sushi Place at 1400 Key Hwy. has been closed for a couple months after previously having an “Under New Management” sign in the window for a short amount of time.
MaGaerks and Ryleigh’s Mentioned in “Cheap Eats”
Baltimore Magazine came out with their “Cheap Eats” issue, naming 25 neighborhood spots to get a meal for under $25. In its “Federal Hill” section, MaGerks Pub & Grill and Ryleigh’s Oyster were mentioned. From the article:

MaGerks is well reputed for its cheese steaks (all versions for $8.50)—and rightly so. Of primary importance is the roll, which is sourced from the City of Brotherly Love and lends an air of authenticity. While the subs aren’t overstuffed like their hometown progenitors, they are just as flavorful and way juicier. Another worthy staple is the bar’s version of sushi, including shrimp tempura ($7.50), soft-shell crab ($8.50), and Philly rolls (smoked salmon and cream cheese for $7.50). The house burger ($10), crab pot ($14), and wings ($9) are all menu stalwarts, but don’t overlook the most obvious reason to frequent Ryleigh’s—its namesake raw oysters. The selection changes daily, and on a recent visit, the farm-raised Pickle Points ($14) from Canada’s Prince Edward Island were briny favorites. Newbies to the slurping scene may want to stick with the Fancy Sweets ($12), which are less briny and make a great “starter” oyster. Those who prefer their mollusks cooked should try the fried oyster po’ boy ($11) with bacon and tartar sauce. South Baltimore Businesses Featured in New Commercial
The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore launched a recent television commercial campaign highlighting downtown. In their new commercial “Why We Live in Downtown Baltimore,” several local businesses are featured. Shots include those of Under Armour, Domino Sugar, and Fenwick Meats, Nick’s Inner Harbor Seafood, and The Flower Shop in the Cross Street Market.
Camden Yards Named Baseball’s Best Stadium
Website Stadium Journey came out with its 2014 MLB Ballpark Experience Rankings and Oriole Park at Camden Yards came in at #1. From the article:
